Mark Carney is still aorund, very ill though.
Casey still gigging and helping out at LA Music Academy.
Rayford Griffing last I heard had been in an accident, involving his back. Not sure how he is doing.
Enzo I see gigging every once in awhile, he was on Pat Thomi's last cd.

Thanx for the update, Randy; Shedder. Very sorry to hear about Mark [still]& Rayford. Both cats extremely talented & gave much to the music community. Hope they both recover.
Am glad to hear that Casey [listen to 'Jean Luc-Ponty Live,' Dec '78, USA, for some mean playin] & Enzo ['Gino Vanelli Live Montreal,' '90-'1, has some killer drummin in there] are alive, kickin, & giggin.

I think Danny Seraphine (original drummer in Chicago) has unfortunately been grossly underrated over the years. I'm a huge Chicago fan (especially the "old" stuff) and I love his playing. I've got some live recordings of him that demonstrate some pretty serious chops, and he could always groove. As far as I know, his drumming resume only includes his 20+ years with Chicago (in contrast to guys like Dave, Vinnie, Dennis, Gregg B., etc. who have played with dozens, if not hundreds, of artists), but that doesn't mean he wasn't a great drummer.
I know both Gregg Bissonette and Mike Mangini have said that Danny was one of their main influences. Too bad he got squeezed out of Chicago, and that he hasn't played with anyone else. I think he's into music production and getting undiscovered talent signed these days.
One other drummer I discovered in the last few years is Bill Lordan (drummer for Robin Trower in the 1970s). His studio work was okay, but I find his live playing to be very high-energy and full of emotion. He plays a great solo on "Alethea" on Trower's "For Earth Below/Live" CD.

I just got word that Rayford Griffin will be playing at Cafe Cordiale 8/21 in the LA area. His playing w/ Jean-Luc was fantastic, especially Fables.

Forgot [as usual] to mention - Altho I didn't get 2 see him w/ JLP [I DID see JLP w/ Casey S, 1st-time, & Sonny Em, 2nd - both brutal!!]; [but-] I DID catch him w/ The STANLEY CLARKE Band [along w/ Scott Henderson [gtr] & Baron Browne [bs],] in the late 80's, which was smokin' as well!
